US Department of Transportation - Volpe Center Internship
I am pleased to announce that we are soliciting graduate student applicants for the John A. Volpe Transportation Internship Program for the 2009/2010 academic year. Applications will be accepted from Monday, February 23, 2009 through April 15, 2009.
I would like your assistance in getting the word out within your professional networks. Concurrently, the Center is sending the notice to colleges and the University Transportation Centers (UTCs).
Each year the Volpe Center competitively awards the John A. Volpe Transportation Internship to an outstanding graduate student studying engineering, information technology, physical or social sciences, who has expressed an interest in working in the field of transportation (U.S. Citizenship is required). This internship program offers a paid opportunity to work with leading experts in transportation at the Volpe Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts and includes:
§ one-year tuition assistance of up to $10,000 (A service agreement is required to receive the tuition reimbursement.),
§ competitive salary commensurate with recipient’s level of education and previous professional work experience, and
§ project assignments based on the recipient’s background and career interests related to any of the following goals as described in the U. S. Department of Transportation and Research & Innovative Technology Administration’s: Safety, Reduced Congestion, Global Connectivity, Environmental Stewardship, Security, Preparedness and Response, and Organizational Excellence.
This unique Internship Program provides a valuable opportunity to work full time during school breaks and/or part-time during the academic year on actual transportation projects. The recipient will utilize new technologies in innovative ways in support of the Volpe Center’s mission as a leader for innovation and as a forum for government, industry, and academic cooperation to develop and improve transportation and logistics systems. The John A. Volpe Transportation Internship may lead to a permanent position at the Volpe Center upon completion of the recipient’s degree.
Please note: The application for the John A. Volpe Transportation Internship will not affect any application status for the Student Career Experience Program (co-op program). However, there is an additional application process for this Internship.
Employees currently in the Student Career Experience Program may also apply for this Internship, which will have no effect on their current appointment.
