PRIMARY PURPOSE: To analyze claims against state petroleum storage tank funds and determine whether charges claimed are technically and financially eligible according to state regulations and agency policies and procedures within the limits of authority set by management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs financial review of claims and makes claim payment recommendations.
- Performs technical review of claims and all supporting documentation to determine eligibility of claimed activities and materials.
- Monitors reserves and deductibles for each claim.
- Documents claim processing.
- Maintains relationships with claimants and client staff.
- Corresponds directly with claimants and consultants regarding claims.
- Interprets reports provided to the state Environmental Protection Agency.
- Maintains a quality assurance program to support the Total Performance Management initiative and the consistent delivery of quality claims service.
Qualifications
Education & Licensing: Baccalaureate degree with major in the environmental field from an accredited college or university preferred.
Experience:
- Two (2) years of claims management and/or environmental claims examiner experience required.
- A four (4) year college degree may be substituted for the required experience.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of claims management processes and procedures
- Excellent oral and written communication, including presentation skills
- PC literate, including Microsoft Office products
- Analytical and interpretive skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent negotiating skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
