2009 Transatlantic Renewable Energy Fellowship in Germany

The 2009 Transatlantic Renewable Energy Fellowship in Germany, a new initiative of the German Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt), administered by InWEnt gGmbH in partnership with CDS International, Inc.

The program allows 15 fellows to attend a 5-day briefing on Germany’s renewable energy policies and structures and complete an internship of 3-6 months with a leading renewable energy company or organization.

The program will run from September 5 through December 19, 2009.

Fellows will receive a stipend in the amount of 3,300 Euro as well as support for travel expenditures to and in Germany.

As part of the Transatlantic Climate Bridge, the Fellowship seeks to further mutual understanding and transatlantic cooperation in climate and energy policies, to provide practical training for future leaders in the renewable energy and environmental fields, and support renewable energy institutions in developing their human resources and transatlantic networks.

Eligibility criteria for the Fellowship are as follows:

- US citizenship, permanent residency, or current enrolment at a US university or college
- Age 32 or younger at the application deadline
- Minimum of 3 years completed at a college or university, preferably with degree completed in

* Technical fields (engineering, IT, manufacturing/production, logistics/supply chain management, geography/meteorology)
* Science (physics, material sciences, chemistry
* Design and Development: regional and urban planning; architecture
* Business (business administration, international business, PR)
* Liberal Arts (international relations, environmental policy, environmental economics)

- Two years experience in renewable energy or a related field, preferably in a professional capacity

MTC - Research and Analysis Intern

The Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC) is seeking qualified candidates for a paid internship at our Westborough office.  

Reporting to the Research Manager for the Index of the Massachusetts Innovation Economy project, the intern will be responsible for the following:

  • Carrying out a variety of research activities, including primary data collection and analysis, related to MTC’s annual Index of the Massachusetts Innovation Economy report for 2009.
  • Assist in drafting text and creating charts for the report; participate in weekly project meetings (both on campus and off-site); summarize reports and articles; and other tasks to help us explore creative new ways to benchmark aspects of the Massachusetts innovation economy against states and nations.

About the Index
The Index is produced by MTC, an independent public economic development organization, with a mission to foster sustainable economic growth by promoting a better understanding of the forces that shape the state’s economy and by enabling greater collaboration among the diverse enterprises involved in the Innovation Economy.  The annual Index is a comprehensive analysis of the Innovation Economy benchmarking Massachusetts performance against other leading technology states.  Entering its 13th year of production, the Index has been nationally and internationally recognized as a comprehensive, objective, and data-rich report that tracks the New Economy for Massachusetts.

REQUIREMENTS: Qualified applicants will be an undergraduate or graduate student in business, economics, political science, public policy, urban policy, or related field; excellent research, quantitative, analytical, organizational, and communications skills; familiarity with the use of common office systems (e.g., word, excel, PowerPoint); and interest in regional innovation systems and the graphical communication of ideas preferred.

Energy Policy Internship – The National Commission on Energy Policy

Brief Job Description:
The Bipartisan Policy Center’s National Commission on Energy Policy (NCEP) will annually award one student—graduate or undergraduate— a summer internship opportunity to conduct research on pertinent energy policy topics in Washington, D.C. at NCEP’s office headquarters.
One fellow will be selected annually in a competition seeking innovative research proposals that address designated topics pertaining to current U.S. energy strategies.  The student whose proposal is accepted will be invited to serve as an intern at NCEP in Washington, D.C. for a 10-week period during the summer.  The intern will split his or her time between bringing his or her research proposal to fruition and engaging in NCEP’s normal business activities, which includes energy policy and technology research, advocacy, and other related endeavors.

US Department of Transportation - Volpe Center Internship

I am pleased to announce that we are soliciting graduate student applicants for the John A. Volpe Transportation Internship Program for the 2009/2010 academic year. Applications will be accepted from Monday, February 23, 2009 through April 15, 2009.

Each year the Volpe Center competitively awards the John A. Volpe Transportation Internship to an outstanding graduate student studying engineering, information technology, physical or social sciences, who has expressed an interest in working in the field of transportation (U.S. Citizenship is required). This internship program offers a paid opportunity to work with leading experts in transportation at the Volpe Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts and includes:

§        one-year tuition assistance of up to $10,000 (A service agreement is required to receive the tuition reimbursement.),

§        competitive salary commensurate with recipient’s level of education and previous professional work experience, and

§        project assignments based on the recipient’s background and career interests related to any of the following goals as described in the U. S. This unique Internship Program provides a valuable opportunity to work full time during school breaks and/or part-time during the academic year on actual transportation projects. Sustainable Endowments Institute - Summer Internship (College Sustainability Report Card)

Spring Sustainability Internship
The Sustainable Endowments Institute is seeking a highly motivated and reliable individual for a part-time internship. The intern will help lay the groundwork for compiling the College Sustainability Report Card 2010. To view previous editions of the Report Card, visithttp://www.GreenReportCard.org

Over the past four years, the Institute has had research fellows and interns from dozens of leading schools including: Brandeis, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Kalamazoo, Michigan, Northeastern, Penn, Stanford, UC Santa Barbara, Vermont Law School, and Williams. 

The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, starting March 9, 2009. The intern will work approximately 15 hours per week and should be able to work in the office at least one day per week. Flexible scheduling arrangements will be considered in certain circumstances. The Sustainable Endowments Institute is a nonprofit organization engaged in research and education to advance sustainability in campus operations and endowment practices. Founded in 2005, the Institute is a special project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.

Responsibilities:

Sustainable Energy Fellow

To be held on the campus of the University of Michigan 30 May to 6 June 2009, this special event supports up to 40 of the most outstanding U.S. graduate and undergraduate students from around the country to explore the technical, organizational, policy and economic imperatives of conventional and renewable energy in our country.

UK Energy Research Center - Energy Summer School

The UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) is holding its fifth annual Energy Summer School from 5th - 10th July 2009 at the University of Sussex, Brighton. There will be 100 places available for UK and international students.

The course has been specifically designed to give first and second year PhD students an understanding of the broader issues relevant to energy research. We welcome applications from those engaged in energy-related research including technical, physical, social, economic, environmental and business aspects of energy and energy systems.

We would like to invite you to nominate students to attend. There is no cost for the School; UKERC will provide accommodation and all meals and materials for activities.
